
Robert Muggah is a political economist specializing in security and development in urban spaces. He co-founded and directs research at the Igarapé Institute, a think tank devoted to using new technologies to tackle global challenges related to public security and drug policy. He is also co-founder and director of the SecDev Foundation, a cyber-analytics group and oversees projects in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. In addition, he is the founder and executive editor of Stability Journal and serves on the editorial board of several academic journals. In 2013, Muggah was named one of the top 100 most influential people working on violence and in 2014 he gave a TED talk on fragile cities. His research and data visualizations on homicide, arms, and cities have been featured by the BBC, CBC, CNN, FastCompany, Financial Times, Foreign Affairs, New York Times, and Wired. Muggah is also affiliated with the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on Fragility, the Global Commission on Drug Policy, the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime, the Know Violence in Childhood Initiative, and other international networks.
