Nuhu H. Hatibu is currently a regional head of AGRA’s East Africa region covering Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda. He is also leading the AGRA program on Mechanization and Irrigation Systems for Smallholders (MISS). Before joining AGRA in July 2017, Hatibu was the CEO of Kilimo Trust for 10 years, a not-for-profit organization with the mission to ensure growth of strategic agricultural sectors to benefit the East African Community (Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Kenya and Burundi). During his tenure, the Trust initiated and implemented headline programs designed to support the expansion of regional trade in food staples. The Trust also developed and promoted a consortium approach to value chain development, through projects working on rice, beans, and potatoes. Before joining Kilimo Trust, Hatibu was the founding regional coordinator of the Soil and Water Management Network for East, Central, and Southern Africa (SWMnet). Before SWMnet, Hatibu was for 20 years teaching at the Sokoine University of Agriculture in Tanzania, where he rose to professor and dean of the faculty of agriculture. Hatibu is experienced in the development and management of rainwater harvesting systems, agricultural value chains, knowledge management, strategy formulation, and in capacity building. Hatibu holds a PhD in agricultural engineering.
